Confirmation
We have a wonderful group of young people in our confirmation
class.  This group meets during Sunday School each Sunday.  If
you have a young person to be a part of this class, let the pastor
or office know, it is not too late to join the group.  March 24 is an
important field trip day for the group.  We will go to Lexington
UMC for the Bishop's Bash for confirmands.  Each year a church
in the Columbia area sponsors this day and youth from all over
our conference attend, usually there are several hundred youth
in attendance.  The meeting begins at 9:00 am and closes at
about 1:00 pm with a "hot dog lunch".  We are considering some
other outings, as time and schedules allow.
What is confirmation?
The act by which persons who were baptized as infants or young children
(or, because of other special circumstances, could not make the baptismal
vows themselves) make their first public statement of their declaration or
profession of faith. In this sense they confirm their faith.
Confirmation is performed in preparation for reception into full
membership in The United Methodist Church. Persons who declared their
faith in Christ for themselves at baptism are not confirmed inasmuch as
they previously made their profession of faith when baptized.
